How to use the Fens App

When you have installed the Fens App and you have opened it for the first time, you will see some different components on the screen of your device.

Open the Fens App by tapping on its icon.

Screen orientation

The layout of the Fens App has been designed to be used mainly in the portrait orientation. You may find that some of the text on the buttons does not look very good in the landscape orientation. We have not restricted the orientation in the Fens App so please feel free to experiment with whichever orientation suits you and your device. Please contact us to let us know if the screen does not display correctly on your device.

Screen sections

The Fens App has been designed with several sections on the screen on your device.

There are sections at the top and bottom of your screen which have buttons and/or icons to help you navigate around the Fens App.

The centre section of the screen is where the main information and details are displayed.

Icons

The small images at the top and bottom of the screen are called icons. They are used a lot in mobile apps as they usually take up less space on the screen of your device than text buttons. You can press on an icon and your screen should change in accordance with your request.

The screen is laid out with buttons and icons for: –

Menu or Contents of the Fens App

Maps screen of the Fens App

Home screen or main screen of the Fens App

Search the contents of the Fens App

Help to use the Fens App if you get stuck

Any specific buttons related to the main section of the screen, such as Aerial and Road when you are in the Interactive Map section of the Fens App.

Info (coming soon) – the best place to look for information about the fens

Back (coming soon) – how to move to a previous screen.

Please try to avoid using your device’s own back button as this may close the Fens App. Please use the Back button at the bottom of the screen within the Fens App as this has been programmed for this purpose. If you get stuck, you can always press the Home or Menu buttons.

Buttons

A button is used to display a small area on your screen which you can press or click in order to tell your device to do something such as display the menu. It can be a text button or an icon.

Logo – this is just a small image and clicking on it won’t do anything. It is for display purposes only.

Links

If you see text which has been underlined, this indicates that it is a link or hyperlink to a different place on a website or to a different website. If you click on the link, it will take your device to that new place.
