There are two groups of themes which can be used to describe the fens:-

• Air (which includes the fen skies)
• Land (which includes places)
• Water (which includes sea levels)

and

• Animals (which includes wildlife)
• Drainage (which overlaps land and water)
• People (which includes technology and history)
• Time (which includes people and history).
